What the survey covers
The surveyor checks affected walls with a moisture meter at different heights, looks for salts, tide marks and mould patterns, and inspects the outside of the property. That includes gutters, downpipes, pointing, render, air bricks, ground levels and the damp proof course.
Where it's relevant, timbers are checked for rot or woodworm too.
What you get
A written report explaining the cause in plain English, what needs doing and a fixed price for the work. If the fix is something simple you can sort yourself, like clearing a gutter or lowering a flower bed, you'll be told that too.
